THRIFT SHOP FINDS

I can finally say I have had LUCK at the charity shop!

I usually see all these fantastic posts by lots of people all over the web with lovely enviable stuff.

Well today, I found a Royal Doulton coffee pot and cups from the 70s. I was going to use them for teacup candles, but they are far far too nice!

Back at Work for a Rest!

Oh my goodness, if ever I needed sleep in a bottle it is today!

After a week in which I had a 5am start, a motorcycle accident and the regular training and gym-goings I started the weekend with a house viewing on Friday afternoon. The place was great, the location not so much - above a shop and next to a noisy busy road with a bus stop outside the window. I also flooded the bike engine by parking on a slope, so couldn't get started and had to have a push!

On Friday evening I made some tealight candles for the craft fair, unfortunately my glass jam jar gave way to the heat and the bottom fell out of it, filling the saucepan I was using as a bain-marie with a nice water and wax mess! At 9:30pm it was time to call it a day, so I left the wax to cool and float to the surface.

Disaster!

Chipping it off on Saturday morning was rather amusing!

So I spent Saturday morning re-melting wax and making candles. Then I rode up to Watford to pick up the van for the fair. Since I had the van rather than the bike I did a humungous shop at ASDA and loaded the van up, I wondered if it would ever fit in our tiny little house. I also stopped at the bike place to get myself some new boots. With spikes. Well ok, just some good armour! I also got a new lid with a flip chin and integral sunnies!

Saturday afternoon was spent finishing off the candles and sewing up breakfast cushions.

When everything was finished, I drove round to the house we saw on Friday to check out the noise levels at midnight. I was still in my pyjamas! I got a phone call from the DH to ask if I could pick him up from Victoria since I was already out in the van. So at 2am, we were just crashing into bed.

An early start on Sunday to set up the stall

Brixton craft stall ii

which was a success judging by previous efforts! I am hoping to do a couple of stalls in July, one in Kilburn and one in North Finchley - a lady came round the stalls with application forms yesterday.

A friend of mine visited the stall yesterday - I haven't seen her for years and I thought we had fallen out since I kept asking and asking her to things but she always had some reason for not coming. It seems I am back in favour! I am also invited to her birthday party in a couple of weeks at Carwash on Old Street - a 70s club! Should be a riot!

Eagerly Awaited Weekend Photos

You can all relax, the photos are up! I'm sure you all had sleepless nights waiting for this oddball set of photos from my weekend!

Luckily I am still here to tell you all about them - I had a bike accident this morning, some lady in a car ran into my foot, which was up on the pegs. I now have a badly bruised foot, but fortunately I don't have any broken bones.

Baking Ninjas

I am currently baking some Ninjas, I hope they don't burn!

Thanks for all the nice comments on my pretty little frock! I want to make one for myself, but I can't see it flattering my womanly figure somehow ;-)

I have lots of pictures from the weekend, we saw some A4 steam engines at Kings Cross on Saturday and went to an engineering open day where they were racing little solar-powered cars! On Sunday we were out walking in Cambridgeshire where Tesco is planning on building an "eco town" on lots of fields. Hmmmm There were lots of interesting things by the side of the road where we were walking, and some stupendously cute little houses.

Of course, you will have to hold your breath for the photos because this week is proving to be a little mental! I have a craft fair on Sunday, which I am getting all sorts of stuff ready for, and tomorrow I am doing a workshop at my old secondary school.

Last night at my "new" martial arts class I had 10 students! WOWEEEEE! 8 of them were children. I hate teaching kids. Cry. It's especially worse when there are only a couple of adults in the class. Fortunately Lee was there to help me and he taught the adults some stuff, while I shouted at the children! I still didn't quite cover the hall fees, but I'm hoping all the children come back next week and then I will be rolling in dosh! Ch-ching! $_$

Catchup (not ketchup) photo

Pillowcase Dress

There we go - for a sweet little 1 year old, who likes red. And buttons! I must post it off today.

I'm pretty much organised for my craft fair on 29th in Brixton. Anyone around in London, come down and see me on Electric Avenue. I have a few more things to finish off making, and some screen printing to do, but apart from that, I'm pretty much sorted!

I'll post some photos of it tomorrow.

In fact, I have some cute card thingies to photograph too. I would take all the pics now, but I only have 10 minutes of worktime left!

A Few Photos

Here are a few select shots from our weekend walking on Sunday.

Most of these were taken on Shad Thames, however the glass building is the North side of the river, near Tower Bridge.

We had an amazing afternoon cream tea in the Teapod shop.

A Little Bit of Fun

Hello!

I have a few nice pictures to post from the weekend. Unfortunately the husband has run off with my CF card and the card reader. I took a billion pictures of buses for him, and he needs them at work today. I hope Ove ARUP will be paying me for my services to Transport Planning ;-)

Anywho, so you will just have to make do with a cute little flickr meme from Mary Jane, Midge & Mink

FREE Father's Day Cards

Since I am in the handmade bidness, I have designed my own father's day (and father in law's) cards.

So here you have it, 2 designs for you, for free! Because I love you.

First, for all the hepcats out there - a card featuring Miles Davis and secondly, for the Daddy-Cools, a trendy typographic card.

Weasel

The estate weasels have me bummed. Our 3rd property fell through yesterday after a lot of hard work from me. It always felt a little wobbly from the get-go, so I can only presume it was for the best. The weasel says that there will be another property exactly the same on the market in a week. I have heard that before, and am still waiting to hear about a carbon-copy of house number 2!

Yesterday I spent my evening in the gym, and crafting. Both great ways to take my mind of the impending no-house doom. Unfortunately I had to buy some more stuff for a few projects I wanted to make, and now the bedsit is fit to burst with craftiness! DH has suggested that we have a big tidy up at the weekend to make the place nicer to live in. I suppose it can't hurt, and I might end up clearing out a fair bit to the charity shop! I might even find some clothes other than jeans and T-shirts. Or at the very least, some other t-shirts...

Oh yes, and the Kata is officially nailed. My instructor says that it shows that I have been practising. Heh! What does he know? I haven't done a jot outside of class, but I will let him believe I work hard...

Inspiration

I seem to be full of it at the moment, and not in the "I will stalk the internet and make something slightly like this" way. I'm hopefully going to be abusing my sewing machine a little bit over the next couple of weeks, and bringing in some new lines for flurogoddess.

House buying is proving to be a roller-coaster ride, but there you go! Hopefully we will have a house at the end of this, but I am not getting my hopes up this time, this is the 3rd property we've made an offer on.

I have set up my little online stall at Blank Canvas Arts who are running the craft fair on Electric Avenue in Brixton at the end of the month. Any Londoners reading, pop down and say hello, and more importantly, buy stuff! I'm only kidding, you know I love you all. For your money.

Martial Arts is proving hard work. I am having real trouble retaining students to my new class. Without wanting to make excuses, I have a feeling it's because I am female. And butch blokes just don't want to be taught how to beat the cr@p out of people by a little girl. It upsets the testosterone levels, I think. My own personal training is going pretty well though, I seem to have nailed the Kata footwork. Bring on 2nd Dan.

In which we meet a family of ducklings and make pretty things

Early one morning I was on my way to the gym. I was riding along the M1 at a fairly good lick. The car in front swerved to the right to avoid something in the road. Having recently had a very close shave on my bike I decided not to swerve and to hit whatever it was. From a distance it looked to me like a cardboard box or a paper bag in the road, only when I'd passed did I realise that it was a mother mallard duck with a brood of 6 new-born baby ducklings. In the middle of the M1. At 6:30am. Fortunately I missed.
